A bit about The underscore:
It was developed by Nancy Stark Smith after observing a natural progression of phases that occurred during jams.  People spend time arriving in the space, warming up and and bringing awareness into their bodies, expanding that awareness to the other bodies in the room and beginning to interact and dance with them.  These phases and  are laid out in an evolving document that acts as a companion to the underscore.
It can serve as a way of highlighting what happens in the dance or provide points for exploration within the dance.  Many people find that the underscore allows them to ‘drop’ into the dance more fully.  The light structure of the underscore often makes for a cohesive and playful atmosphere.
The underscore is nothing to be nervous about – it’s just what happens in jams but in a more structured way. There is no wrong or right! Please note that this is an event for people with some CI experience. If you have never participated in an Underscore practice before please be there right on time, so you can partake in the orientation that will occur.
