Workshops with Alice Cummins
Residing in the Bodymind: Body-Mind Centering & Authentic Movement
Wednesdays 11am – 1pm (see series dates below)
Body-Mind Centering® is a practice of mindfulness . It offers a unique and valuable process for developing an embodied sense of self during the decision-making of everyday life and in performance making.
The focus of the workshop series will be to listen and develop a practice of attention. This becomes the ground for deeper investigation of our bodymind. Time will be given for integrating the material through Authentic Movement, shared discussion, moving/dancing and journal writing. Through a practice of BMC we can invite change that is an integration of our physical, psychological, intellectual and imaginative life.
Each series of Residing in the Bodymind will offer weekly classes and a private session for every participant.
“Body-Mind Centering” and “BMC” are service marks of Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, used with permission.
Improvisation and performance
Wednesdays 6.30-8.30pm (see series dates below)
These workshops will generate embodied performance making that is strongly based in an articulate dancing body. From a somatic warm-up to vigorous dancing, each class will proceed from a particular focus that prepares participants for moving and making. We will practice solos, duets, trios and group improvisations from given and self-created scores, accumulating skills that inform decision making in the moment-by-moment composing that is improvisation.
When:
Both classes will be offered in 2012 in the following series:
April 11 – May 5 (excluding April 25)
July 4 – August 8
